The Transformatikos: Surya
(Part of The Transformatikos by Adityanath)
The next stop after Mercury on our journey is the center of the Solar System itself, the Sun, called Surya in Jyotish. The Sun is of course a Star and not a Planet, and is both the source of light and source of life on Earth. In fact, every element on Earth and the other true Planets of the Solar System was produced by the Sun.
Now, the Stars have been attributed with various occult properties and there may be much more to them than we imagine. An old song of the Algonquin tribe of American Indians goes:
We are the stars which sing,
we sing with our light;
we are the birds of fire,
we fly over the sky.Our light is a voice;
we make a road for the spirit to pass over
…for the spirit to pass over…We are like the wind,
wrapped in luminous wings;
we make a road for the spirit to pass over
…for the spirit to pass over…(as translated by Dead Can Dance in Song of the Stars)
The early Egyptians believed that the justified dead became Stars. Cultures that worshipped the Sun as a Creator God were perhaps not off the mark at least with respect to the creation of the Earth and the Solar System. While the Vision of our Sun as a Conscious Being stirring the Cosmos with his multiple Planetary arms and communicating with other Stars via some slow modulation of light or gravity is enticing, we need not go further than to affirm that the Sun represents the Center of Consciousness and is archetypally portrayed as a King situated in the Center of his Kingdom.
OM HRIM HAMSAH SURYAYE NAMAHA!
As King of the Solar System, Surya’s significance includes the Father and other authority figures, such as the government and one’s employer. Surya is also connected to one’s power or strength, the worship of Shiva, the awakening of spiritual knowledge leading to Enlightenment, the eastern direction and the face. In the natural chart, he rules over the house of Children which also governs all the growing and expanding things in one’s life such as investments and the success of one’s own business ventures.
The Surya mantra is to be repeated 7,000 times, and the Working should be started on a Sunday while the Moon is waxing. This Mantra can increase one’s confidence and authority, and can help to resolve issues with one’s father, employer, and the government. It is also said to be useful for health issues involving the bones, the eyes, the bile, and any feverish or inflammatory complaints. The Surya Mantra is also commonly used for problems with Children, especially when a couple is having difficulty conceiving a child due to impotence or infertility.
The primary spiritual result of the Surya Working is, however, the balancing of the Ego. While this is especially helpful for those with any form of inferiority complex, those will inflated egos or a superiority complex will also benefit greatly from this Working. Overall, one can expect improved relationships with friends and children as well long-term benefits to Health, Wealth and Well-Being to result from establishing a good relationship with Surya.
